Santiago Insignares‘ work instigates a dialogue in which social and personal trauma is revisited, taking particular interest in the way that memory reconstructs traumatic events to make them key points on the narrative of our lives. Addressing such topics as systematic massacre, public display of the tortured body, and domestic sexual violence, the work blurs the lines of morality by playing with formal values that both seduces and repulses the viewer. Through a playful approach to materials, color, rhythm and composition Insignares creates sculptures, installations, and videos in which troublesome content is hidden in plain sight, adding a general tone of dark humor to the work.
