Elizabeth Russell’s work engages with concerns of materiality, craft, and abstraction. While her practice is rooted in painting, she employs a variety of media, highlighting relationships between gestures, marks, and materials in subtle ways that invite poetic associations. Her pieces consist of simple gestures such as folding, twisting, creasing and knotting, as well as evocative juxtapositions of color, texture, and material.

Russell lives and works in Berkeley and San Francisco. She has participated in group and solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Massachusetts, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Russell received her MFA from California College of the Arts. She is represented by Interface Gallery in Oakland.
